No infrastructure gaps for sports event; All arrangements to be finalised soon, assures Director Tourism

Srinagar, Feb 12 (KNO): Gulmarg is all set to host much awaited Khelo India Winter Games (KIWG) 2026 from February 23, with administration asserting that there are no infrastructure gaps for the national level event. Ministry of Sports, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), while announcing the dates said the snow events of the sixth edition of the Games will be held from February 23 to 26 at the Kongdoori slopes, drawing around 400 athletes from across the country. Director Tourism Kashmir, Syed Qamar Sajad said the department is fully prepared to host the event and that Gulmarg has adequate infrastructure in place. “There is no lack of infrastructure. We are ready to host the event. Whatever necessary arrangements are required will be finalised soon to ensure smooth conduct,” the Director told KNO. He said the department, along with the district administration and other line agencies, is working in coordination to ensure seamless management of logistics, accommodation and venue readiness. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Minga Sherpa also reviewed the arrangements and said all departments have been directed to put necessary measures in place. He said special focus is being laid on traffic regulation, water supply and other essential services to facilitate athletes and officials. Athletes are expected to arrive in the Valley on February 21 and 22 ahead of the competitions. It is noteworthy that, the Gulmarg leg follows the successful conduct of the ice sports events in Ladakh from January 20 to 26. Haryana currently leads the medal tally after the first phase—(KNO)
